We’ve been creating nutritiously superior baking mixes for over 5 years now, and in that time we’ve seen all sorts of fad diets or “superfoods” come and go – fermented turmeric latte anyone? In the past 12 months, there’s been one thing which keeps popping up again and again and again – the requests from you guys (our community) for plant based products. We listened and created a range of mixes that have no whey or other dairy products, made with nutritionally dense nuts, seeds and quality plant based protein.
Isn’t plant based just another fad?
Simply put, no.
Unlike fermented turmeric lattes, a plant based diet is a necessity for many people who can’t tolerate dairy (lactose), and a conscious decision for others to help them feel their best, both physically in their own bodies, and from a socially sustainable perspective.
There’s no “official” definition for plant based, but dairy free, vegetarian, vegan and “flexitarian” all fit under the “plant based” umbrella, and even paleo followers usually avoid dairy. The general consensus is that you get the majority of your food intake from plants rather than animals, such as avoiding dairy products.
How much is a “majority”? Well that’s really up to your own personal preference. As Michael Pollan states: “Eat food, mostly plants, and not too much.” That could mean reducing or cutting out meat or dairy, for example, and you could choose to do it everyday, one day a week, every weekend, or just every now and then – it’s whatever works for you.
Plant based means we can help even more people to eat well and feel their best.
The demand for high quality, natural plant based protein products in a market traditionally filled with nasty ingredients is incredibly strong. We’re seeing a lot of demand from people – from those who have previously loved the idea of our products but weren’t able to eat them due to the whey protein, to people who are finding that they just feel so much better without having dairy in their diet.
Our core belief here at The Protein Bread Company is that everyone deserves to feel their best, and feeling your best starts with what you eat. It doesn’t matter if your goal is to be the best mum in the world, get faster at running your 5km parkrun, or get stronger at the gym – it all starts with what you eat.
By not having a range of plant based products, we were limiting the amount of people who we could help to feel their best and that wasn’t in line with the “everyone” part of our belief, so it had to change!
We took a long hard look at what products you guys loved, but couldn’t enjoy if dairy wasn’t part of your diet. We looked at what you were asking for, and what you weren’t asking for but our intuition told us that you’d probably want. We’re exceptionally proud of creating these products, and can’t wait to hear what you think.
So what plant based products did we create?
Plant Based Protein Cookie Mix!
This is definitely the one I’m most excited about. Who doesn’t love cookies??!! (Except for the sugary, gluten injection that regular cookies give…)
I’ve found both personally and anecdotally, snacks are usually where you can do the most good, or bad, in eating to feel your best. You can be super strict with your brekkie, organised with lunch and dinner, but if you’re pounding down sugar-laden muffins, cookies, juices or soft drink in between, then you’re going to struggle to make any meaningful progress.
Our Plant Based Protein Cookie Mix is super versatile, really easy to make and has under 7g of carbs and a WHOPPING 20g of protein per cookie! Being plant based, there’s no whey protein. We use rice protein instead, no soy, and it’s even gluten free.
Plant Based Protein Pizza… Base.
Try saying that with your mouth full of pizza! A bit of a tongue twister, but another fantastic product we are positive you guys are going to LOVE as much as we do.
We took one of our most popular products, Protein Pizza Base, and reformulated it from scratch using lupin, almond meal and rice protein as its protein source. No whey protein (and no soy)!
What’s more, it has the same great nutrition and taste as our regular Protein Pizza Base, a HUGE 50g of protein and just 7.6g of carbs per base.
Our famous Protein Pancakes
Some of you may already know that our Protein Pancake Mix is already plant based! We made this change a few years ago from a whey protein based recipe to a rice protein one, and you guys have loved it!
Our recipe and incredible nutrition for Protein Pancakes stays the same, the only difference is the packaging! A beautiful new design so it fits amongst its plant based friends.
Protein Banana Bread
Last but not least, our recently released Protein Banana Bread is moving from a limited edition product to become part of our new plant based range to stay for good! You guys loved it so much and told us it had to stay – so we listened. You can read more about that over on the blog post I wrote.
So that’s our new Plant Based range of baking mixes! We’re incredibly excited to get them out there and be able to help so many more people feel their best through the power of eating well.
